If you wish to forward a domain address that you have to some other domain name or subdomain, one way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain address being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is forwarded to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the site that you have created, but it'll also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the traffic from different subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record created for the main domain renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan from our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it will take you just a few mouse clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted within your account through the Hepsia Control Panel that comes with each plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the modification. In case you have never added this sort of record before, you will discover a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will aid you with this task. If you have set up a site using another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different company, for instance Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a couple of clicks inside your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every single one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will permit you to create a CNAME record without difficulty. If you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to redirect a domain name to a subdomain within the account or to forward a domain name to another company and use some third-party service that they provide, it won't require more than three clicks to set up such a record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted in the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so once you're there, all that you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then input the actual record text. For your benefit, you can see a short video inside the CP on how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
